IIQE Format, Pass Mark and When Results Are Released

Last updated 2026-08-09

These are the parameters to settle before you start studying — they determine your pacing in the examination and, if you are travelling, your itinerary. All taken from the official handbook.

Format

PaperDurationQuestionsAverage per question
I — Principles and Practice of Insurance2 hours751 min 36 sec
II — General Insurance1 hour 15 min501 min 30 sec
III — Long Term Insurance1 hour 15 min501 min 30 sec
V — Investment-linked Long Term Insurance2 hours801 min 30 sec

("Average per question" is the official duration divided by the official question count — it is not an official figure.)

All questions are multiple choice, all must be attempted, and all are set in both Chinese and English (clauses 2.2.1–2.2.3).

The pass mark

A candidate must score at least 70 marks in each paper to pass.

One rule is easy to miss: the examination centre does not release marks, questions or correct answers. Even if you apply for a re-mark, you are told only whether the paper is now a pass — never the score (clause 12.6).

So "how far off was I" is information that does not exist. Do not plan to locate your weak areas from examination feedback; that has to come from your own practice record beforehand.

When you get your result

This differs sharply between modes and directly affects travel plans:

ModeWhen you know pass or failElectronic result notification available
Computer-basedOn screen, immediately after finishing1 hour after the designated end time
Paper-and-pencilFrom the fifth full working dayFive full working days after the examination

"Full working day" excludes the examination day itself, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

If you are flying in for the examination and want the result before you leave, choose the computer-based mode. Five working days means most candidates are already home.

The score shown on screen is for reference; the result notification governs.

Results and certificates expire from the download system

The electronic result notification and electronic certificate can be downloaded only within three months of the examination date through the Examination Result Enquiry system on the examination centre's website.

After three months you must apply for a replacement — a separate form, a separate fee, and the replacement certificate is watermarked Duplicate.

Download the PDF as soon as you have it. This is a nuisance that costs nothing to avoid.

The timeline after you enrol

the same document you enrolled with

Typhoons and rainstorms

When a Pre-No. 8 Special Announcement, Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above, a Black Rainstorm Warning or an "Extreme Conditions" announcement is issued or remains in force during the specified windows, the examinations in the corresponding session are cancelled, and the examination centre notifies candidates of a new date and time.

If you are sitting in the summer months, leave a spare day in your itinerary.

For how to allocate study time across chapters, see the expected-loss breakdown for Paper I.

Sources and currency

Format, pass mark, result release, enrolment procedure and identity requirements are taken from the Insurance Intermediaries Qualifying Examination (Paper-and-Pencil and Computer-based Modes) Handbook (clauses 2.2, 4.3–4.4, 11, 12 and the appendices), applicable from 1 September 2025, retrieved 2026-08-09.

The handbook is versioned and arrangements are subject to change. Check the current official version before enrolling. Mange is not an official body. Nothing here is enrolment advice; the official announcements of the Insurance Authority and the PEAK Examination Centre govern.
